Impervious

I thought I had broken open your shell
But it grew back doubled in on itself
A new layer added for every crack
Sealing you deeper with each little wack
And I think you like it, the dark and the cold
The perfect excuse to never be bold;
To never take chances or let lead your heart
All alone wondering when life’s going to start.

Never Again.

Love to you is just a mood
A feeling that you slip into
Like work, or play, or saddest boy in the world
Whatever works for you that day.

I didn’t realize it was a game
When I looked in your eyes or whispered your name
You always knew you’d leave again
I knew, too, but pretended it wasn’t true.

A distant shore, out there, somewhere,
You’re standing sad but strong
Lamenting that you’re so unloved
When I’ve loved you all along.

Make your excuses, make it my fault,
If you did any wrong you never got caught
How many people have you broken this way?
A forgotten toy, left to rot in the rain.

Looks Like Rain

I thought I heard thunder, but it was an airplane
Mistook a leaky gutter for the first signs of rain
Prepared myself to get caught in a storm
Pulled my coat tighter to try to stay warm.
I shielded my face from the sky with a hood
Waited for lightning to strike where I stood
Then all of a sudden I was struck by a glare
Shining there off that girl’s golden hair –
I pulled back my hood and prepared to renew
My spirit with a sky that was suddenly blue.
Maybe there had never even been a storm at all;
The storming of my thoughts caused a momentary squall.
I stepped off of sidewalk and began to walk toward the hotel
Drawn back to you as if by a spell.
